On Your Mark ... TPM 7 Gets Off to a Great Start Sun Apr 5, 2009
The 7th running of the Toronto Photo Marathon got off to a great start today from Yonge Dundas Square.
The weather was cold and windy. In fact so windy that by later in the day the police closed off the square for fear that some of those big signs would come hurtling down. But that did not deter our intrepid marathoners who braved the elements to partake in this now classic creative event.
Each marathoner received a roll of 24 exposure film, courtesy of Fuji film. It is significant to note that the organizers were not able to get their hands on 12 exposure rolls as had been easily done in the past.
Then, at precisely 12 noon, they also received a card with 12 themes, namely: 1. Life in the Big City 2. April Showers 3. Dirt 4. Clean 5. Ahhh! 6. Work, Work, Work 7. I’m Hungry 8. Tranquility 9. Energy 10. Politics 11. Rude Awakening 12. Sunday Morning
The task was then to shoot each theme, in sequence, using only one exposure. Even though they were provided with 24 exposure film it was made clear that only the first 12 exposures would be developed. The time limit: 24 hours.
The results of this creative endeavour will be on display at the Gladstone Hotel on Thursday April 23 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm. Marathoners, their friends and anyone with a love for things creative are invited to come and vote for the photos that best captured each theme.
